Extension Spindles

  • Standard valve extension spindle shafts are manufactured from 32mm diameter mild steel round bar for spindles up to 1 metre in length. For lengths exceeding 1 metre the spindle shafts are constructed using 33.7 mm diameter tube x 4.0mm wall thickness.

All spindles are supplied with a standard 35mm male spigot designed to fit a standard valve key. The base of the spindle has a cast steel 35mm socket fitted with a pinch bolt which is used to secure the base to the false top of the hydrant valve.

Valve extension spindles can also be supplied with a 42mm socket or a 48/50mm socket for use on larger valves.

42mm sockets are designed to fit valves on pipe sizes 150 – 200mm dia. pipe sizes

48/50mm sockets are designed to fit valves on pipe sizes from 350mm dia. pipe sizes

Please Note: All spindle extension sizes refer to the overall length. It should remembered that approximately 1 ½” is lost from the overall height when fitted to the hydrant valve due to the base of the spindle fitting over the valve false top.

When considering the lift then approximately 3” should be subtracted from the overall length of the spindle extension. This would take into account the combined amount lost when you consider that approximately 1 ½” is lost when fitting the spindle onto the valve and a further 1 ½” is lost when fitting the valve key to the spindle.

All valve extension spindles are supplied painted.
